What’s Good at Surin Islands

The 1st day evening: I leave Bangkok by an air-conditioned bus, then arrive Kuraburi in the early morning. After having a cup of coffee and a soft-boiled egg filling my energy, I take a motorcycle taxi to the park port (15 minutes).

Morning of the 2nd day: I take a ferryboat passing mangrove forests and islands. The prow counters the waves heading to Mu Ko Surin (So exciting!!?). On the way, I gradually read a book finding more information of Mu Ko Surin.

Noon: Taking a deep breath, I am in Mu Ko Surin now. The front view is the blue water and green forest. A long-tail boat takes me to the island. I visit the exhibition center before having lunch. The center here is very good. There is plenty of information on terrestrial and marine animals helping me make decision where I should go.

Afternoon: I rent a mask, snorkel, and life jacket from a park officer, and start to practice snorkeling at Ao Chong Kaad. At the beginning, it goes with difficult, but the area here is shallow and safe. When I get more acquaintance, I swim out to see corals and find a lot of anemonefishes. I see sea cucumbers rolling about, also.

Evening: After taking a bath, I walk around seeing the sunset. I am lucky seeing a big Malayan flying lemur foraging and a Brahminy kite hovering home. I come back to have a very delicious dinner, watch a 45-minute-long video, follow with 81 slides. He (the park officer) explains very excellent. Late at night, I sit outside looking for Pleiades.

Morning of the 3rd day: I wake up with birds’ sound, fill up by soft-boiled rice. Nine o’clock, I’m ready to go out to the sea, taking a long-tail boat to Ao Tao …corals, fishes, and Hawksbill turtles. Now, I believe Surin is really superb.

Noon: Come back to the Park Headquarters, have lunch, then take a nap.

Afternoon: Hike to Haad Mai Ngam, do not forget to bring the snorkeling equipment. In addition, I hang a binocular around my neck watching birds and plants until I get to the beach. I run into the sea doing one more snorkeling before going up building a sandcastle and sending my sweet look at tourists around there.

Evening: Come back for dinner. Today, I do not watch a slide show, but talk with the park officers getting a lot of information and stories. After listening, I feel in love with the forest and the sea. So, at night, I go to sit quietly at the beach, there are only the sound of the waves and the blowing winds (I won’t ever forget tonight.)

Morning of the 4th day: Ho...I have got to go now…so sad. However, before going, I take a long-tail boat visiting the sea gypsies’ village, seeing their simple way of lives. Especially, their boats, they look livable. I buy a basket for remembrance too. And I won’t forget my short time at Mu Ko Surin, ever.

P.S. Do you believe? I spend only 2,700 baht for the above memory.
