Similan Journey

The 1st morning: Too tired!! by the time we get to Tub La Mu. While waiting for a boat, we visit Chulaporn Underwater Research Center at Phang-Nga navy base. There is an interesting exhibition of the Tourism Authority of Thailand too. On seeing, we would like to reach Similan as soon as possible. We stop to eat at the port being ready for the journey

Afternoon: Arrived! After a long time taking a boat, finally we get to the bay in front of the park headquarters at Ko Sii. A long-tail boat picks us up to the beach. The seawater is so clear and beautiful…wow…it make me would like to swim. Then, I ask my friends to walk to Haad Lek, clear water with shallow-water coral reef. So we practice snorkeling here. It’s so funny facing a lot of strange animals, especially butterflyfishes and anemonefishes…so many.

Evening: Delicious food with deep-fried fish. When it’s dark, I ask my friends to go into the forest looking for a Hairy Leg Mountain crab. After walking only 10 minutes, we see a dry stream. When we shine the torches, we see a lot of crabs near the stream. They look like giant ghost crabs, live in fist-size holes. On the way back, a bat flies across my head. Almost shock!

The 2nd day: Today, we plan to dive to our hearts’ content. Start from taking a long-tail boat to Ao Keuak. It took only 30 minutes. Inside the bay is a white-sand beach with the Hin Bai located towering on the cliff. We climb up, hope to take a good photo. The trail is steep, but not too far. In only 15 minutes, we reach the top. The view up here is so marvelous. Then, we climb down back to dive. The water around here is clear, but there are not so many marine animals. Then, we go up from the water and take a box lunch.

Afternoon: On the way back, we stop by diving at Ko Hok on the eastern side. There are a lot of corals. We see beautiful pink soft corals. The park officers say they are usually found in deep water, but here we could see them from the surface. When we get inside, we see a shark!! sleeping on the sand floor. They say it is a Reef Whitetip shark, not dangerous. But I better retreat…safety first. Go other ways; we face only beautiful things. We conclude that Ko Hok is the best.

Evening: We go to see the sunset. On the way, we find a lot of birds, we see a Nicobar pigeon is eating wild sapodilla fruits. We are so excited because the park officer tells us that it’s rare bird. After dinner, we gather on the beach under a million of stars in the sky listening to the wave sound…so impressed. This time, many of us start their first love.

The 3rd day: It’s time to go back. Regretfully, we have no that much time. But we have to hurry up; otherwise, we probably miss the evening bus. Although the trip is short, I have fell in love with Similan…next year…I will be here for the whole week.

P.S. Do you believe... I spend not more than 2,700 baht for this trip?
