Islands Around Phuket
Around Phuket Island are located about 39 islands. Although these islands are small, they usually have beautiful coral reefs along the shores, especially the southern islands like Ko Loan and Ko Hae. Since they are located near Phuket, it is convenient to access with small expenses. Many people prefer staying on the land and take a day trip to the islands. However, for those who love tranquil atmosphere, it is possible to find a bungalow on the islands like Ko Racha Yai and Ko Hae, or stay at the high-level hotel like Ko Maiton.
Ko Kai Nai and Ko Kai Nork
Beautiful small islands with sandy beaches and coral reefs. Usually used as a stop by spots for the boat to Phang-Nga. Have picnic areas.
Ko Hae
Located near Ko Loan and Ao Chalong. It is possible to take a taxi-boat from Haad Rawai with the distance of 5 kilometers for 30 minutes. The boat leaves at 9:30 a.m. and returns at 15:00 p.m. The fee is 100 baht. Or you may hire a long-tail boat form Haad Rawai or Ao Chalong (500 baht, 30-40 minutes taken), or a speedboat (1,500-2,000 baht, 15 minutes taken)
There are two beaches on Ko Hae, but the popular one is Haad Ao Kluay where there are various kinds of water activities, including snorkeling at the small, but beautiful, coral reef. For the SCUBA diving, it takes small expenses and it is safe, but it is not beautiful like those far away offshore islands. It is more suitable for learning and practicing diving skills.

Ko Maiton and Ko Dokmai
Small islands near the ferryboat route from Phuket to Phi Phi islands. Located about 20 kilometers from Phuket. At Ko Maiton, there are beaches and coconut gardens; coral reef is recovering from deteriorated condition. It is the location of a five-star hotel. Activities are such as snorkeling, sea canoeing, and nature trail walking to the viewpoint. Transportation to Ko Maiton is by hiring a boat from Ao Chalong. Contact the hotel at (076) 214-954-8
Ko Dokmai is located near Ko Maiton. Around the island is steep cliff with no beach. It is not appropriated for general tourists, but it is one of the best SCUBA diving sites in the area around Phuket. The water depth is 25-40 meters, which it should be careful. On the slope, there are soft corals and small shrimps. Sometimes, it is found a Leopard shark wandering around the area. Transportation to Ko Dokmai is by hiring a long-tail boat or speedboat at about 2,500-4,000 baht.
Mu Ko Racha
It is the islands that contain the most beautiful coral reefs in Phuket Province. It is located in the south of Phuket and consists of Ko Racha Yai and Ko Racha Noi (sometimes called “Ko Raya”). To get to the islands, take a hire-boat from Ao Chalong; a long-tail boat for 10 persons is about 1,500 baht, 1.30 hours taken; a speedboat for 10 persons is about 5,000 baht, 30 minutes taken.
On Ko Racha Yai are coconut gardens. There are big bays of Ao Siam and Ao Namtatok. Around the island, there are several coral reefs. The seawater is sometimes very clear in which many kinds of interesting sea animals living. It is regarded as one of the best sites for snorkeling and SCUBA diving in the area. It is possible to stay in bungalows on Ko Racha Yai
There are no lodgings on Ko Racha Noi. It is suitable for a day-trip.
